Always on the lookout for ways to improve the efficiency, safety, productivity and ergonomics of today’s mattress- and pillow-making operations, machinery makers introduced a range of innovative machinery and software solutions at ISPA EXPO 2018 March 14-16 in Charlotte, North Carolina. There was plenty of new software for streamlining plant operations and for making complex equipment easier to maintain and operate. In fact, a significant number of innovations in manufacturing equipment were about replacing hand labor with automation. Many factors, not the least of which is aging workers who are dealing with heavier finished products, have caused machinery makers to pay closer attention to the ergonomics associated with production processes. Equipment makers are seeking to lighten the load for those who labor on the plant floor, while, at the same time, reducing their customers’ exposure to workers’ compensation issues. Machinery vendors say they also are working more closely with bed makers on ways to improve production flow in general. For instance, on many plant floors, conveyors and lift-and-place mechanisms are playing a bigger role as producers look for new ways to automa...

Best Towels In India That Warrant A Place In Your Washroom logo

Everyone enjoys a relaxing bath. Be it a hot shower or a warm jacuzzi, sometimes all one needs is a good bath to rejuvenate their senses. Now one of the most important elements of a good bathing experience requires using a soft and comfortable towel. After all, picking the wrong towel can cost you a lot of discomforts – itchy and dry skin, bacterial infections, frizzier hair, and more. It also goes without saying that you need to be very careful about what is coming in contact with your skin. So without further ado, MensXP has compiled a list of the best towels in India that warrant a place in your washroom.   The Amouve organic bath towel is the ultimate choice for people looking for super absorbent, plush towels that, unlike conventional bath towels, are anti-pill. These towels  are more durable, safer for your skin, and provide a luxurious, smooth feeling. Add to this a high gsm count as well as a comparatively economical price tag, and this can safely be considered as being one of the best towels in India.  This bamboo towel set (including bath and hand towels) from Heelium is designed for effective absorbing, with an internal hollow fibre structure that allows for thr...

Documents in city files show early stage plans to fill two empty spaces at Westwood Village

Documents in city files show early stage plans to fill two empty spaces at Westwood Village – one big, the other relatively small. First the big: A site plan has just been filed showing a proposed Ross Dress For Less outlet in the former Barnes & Noble space next to Target. Second: Another site plan shows America’s Best Contacts and Eyeglasses in the works for the space next to Ulta Beauty. The chain currently has one other store in Seattle city limits, in Ballard, but has several around the greater metro area, including Southcenter. Site plans are filed toward the start of the process seeking permits for remodeling (etc.) and don’t yield other details, but we will be contacting both companies to try to find out more. There are a lot of families with kids and teenagers in the neighborhood. In fact, West Seattle is fortunate to have a large amount of families versus single households. Instead of a retailer selling almost the same product as three other stores in the village (discounted clothes and small home goods), I was hoping for stores that fit the WS demographic. And places that offered people something to do as commenters have previously mentioned that Barnes and Noble...

You’ve most likely read articles and have seen advertisements for CBD stores opening throughout Central Indiana. Like most people, you may be curious about cannabidiol (CBD) and how to use the variety of products that are legal in the state of Indiana and nationwide. Many medical professionals experience positive results with CBD for pain, anxiety and sleep disorders among their patients. But where do you go to purchase quality CBD oil and other related hemp products? What specific products should you be using for your specific ailments? How much should you take? Ask the knowledgeable team at CBD American Shaman in Carmel, who are eager to assist you. Kerry Hinkle, district manager at CBD American Shaman Indy, opened their second location in Carmel last month. Hinkle shared that their popular Broad Ripple location was bringing in a lot of northsiders. Combined with the vast population of Carmel and its surrounding communities, which typically include a higher-educated and health/fitness-centric population, Hinkle said it only made sense to open their second location there. “For me, personally, I want to be involved in something that is good for people and makes a difference in t...

At the SPS IPC Drives show, the German drives manufacturer KEB unveiled a new series of bookshelf-format servodrives and matching servomotors, which offer real-time communications with higher-level controls via EtherCat, Varan or Can. The Combivert S6 drives can control asynchronous, synchronous, IPM or synchronous reluctance motors, using either encoder feedback for accurate positioning, or sensorless operation to achieve precise speed and torque control without needing speed feedback. Initially, the three-phase (200–480V, 50/60Hz) servodrives are available in a 50 x 250mm format with outputs up to 2.2kW, 8kHz nominal switching frequencies and a 2.5 times overload capability. There is a built-in brake controller for direct connection to PM brakes. A “unique” feature of the drives is said to be their integrated noise suppression for C1 and C2 environments (EN 61800-3), with leakage currents of less than 5mA for motor cables of up to 50m long. They can be be used in installations with F1-protected switches with 30mA ratings. At first, the drives will support the STO safety function (Pl e / SIL 3), but there are plans to add further modular safety functions (SS1, SS2, SOS and SLS)...

39 Weirdo Products On Amazon That Keep Selling Out (Like $20 Salt Blocks For Your Feet)

Two things are true about great products: they don’t have to cost a fortune to be effective and labeling them as “weird” sometimes simply means they are uniquely addressing a problem you never knew you had. These 40 weird products on Amazon that keep selling out are proof of that. All of the bizarre products on this list share something in common: customers have looked right past their quirkiness to come to the conclusion that they are so helpful in addressing one or more of their needs. Even better: these affordable products have the kind of following you’d expect from items that cost triple the price. How about an acne clearing lotion for your butt or a money-saving spatula that digs up every last drop of lotion or serum from bottles and jars? There’s also miscellaneous products like a wearable umbrella hat, a back-stretching device, and a battery charger that can charge up to eight batteries at once. Whether you’re in the market for a better pillowcase that won’t give you bed head or you could really use an inflatable seat cushion that makes your office chair more comfortable, this is the list where you’ll find unusual — and un...

What India Reveals About the Future of Online Travel: A Skift Deep Dive

In October 2016, MakeMyTrip and Ibibo, India’s two largest online travel agency groups, agreed to merge. Investors expected the deal would stem the rampant promotional offers that have bled away profits in the sector. But that didn’t happen. The deal united the brands MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, and RedBus. Together, they could have translated their market heft into profitability. Unfortunately for them, new entrants emerged. Paytm, a digital wallet provider, began selling flights and rail. Oyo, a hospitality company, received a $1 billion funding round in 2018 that let it continue to drive 95 percent of its bookings through its direct online channels through various promotions. Meanwhile, a few older players revved up their games. Booking.com doubled its lodging inventory and doubled down on its domestic marketing. The price-comparison search brand Ixigo turbo-charged its customer and inventory acquisition efforts. Yatra and Cleartrip continued to fight, while other smaller players debuted. Global powerhouses like Booking.com that rarely compete with promotional offers participated in a fierce one-upmanship in other ways. They dispersed workers to sign up inventory, created marketing ...

Bioresorbable optical sensor systems for monitoring of intracranial pressure and temperature

Continuous measurements of pressure and temperature within the intracranial, intraocular, and intravascular spaces provide essential diagnostic information for the treatment of traumatic brain injury, glaucoma, and cardiovascular diseases, respectively. Optical sensors are attractive because of their inherent compatibility with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Existing implantable optical components use permanent, nonresorbable materials that must be surgically extracted after use. Bioresorbable alternatives, introduced here, bypass this requirement, thereby eliminating the costs and risks of surgeries. Here, millimeter-scale bioresorbable Fabry-Perot interferometers and two dimensional photonic crystal structures enable precise, continuous measurements of pressure and temperature. Combined mechanical and optical simulations reveal the fundamental sensing mechanisms. In vitro studies and histopathological evaluations quantify the measurement accuracies, operational lifetimes, and biocompatibility of these systems. In vivo demonstrations establish clinically relevant performance attributes. The materials, device designs, and fabrication approaches outlined here establish broad f...
